"Solidly built, seakindly, manageable, you always knew the boat would make it."
The Seawind was the first,as well as one of the last, boats built by the Allied Boat Company. It was designed by Tom Gilmer and first built in 1962. A Seawind was the first fiberglass boat to sail around the world. There have been nine circumnavigations by Seawinds. Italic has circumnavigated the Atlantic, crossing east in 1999 and west in 2003. The Seawind is mentioned as a good choice for ocean cruising by Anne Hammick in Ocean Cruising on a Budget. Don Casey's own boat is a Seawind 30 and many of the drawings in his wonderful book, This Old Boat, look familiar.
