The Friede & Goldman L-907 Enhanced Pacesetter Semi-Submersible, built in 1983 at Daewoo, Korea, stands as a robust offshore drilling rig with continuous upgrades to meet evolving API industry standards. With dimensions of 80m in length and 62m in width, including sponsons, and the ability to operate in water depths ranging from 250ft to 1,500ft, this rig balances versatility and capability.
Accommodating a workforce of 120, the rig features a variable deck with a substantial operating capacity of 3,340Mt. Its transit speed, towed at an average of 5 knots, facilitates efficient mobilization between locations. The rig is equipped with a helideck designed for EC225, S92, and S61 helicopters.
The drilling equipment includes a NorMar mast, National hoist/ drawworks with a maximum line pull of 625st, and a Brown Brothers motion compensator with a 20ft stroke and a capacity of 600,000 lbs. The drilling depth reaches a maximum of 25,000ft, utilizing a National 49-1/2″ rotary table and a Maritime Hydraulics top drive with a capacity of 650 tons.
The Blowout Preventer (BOP) stack is a standout feature, consisting of four Rams, two Annulars, and a Hydril Conventional 18-3/4″ 15,000psi BOP Stack. It adheres to API S53 compliance, featuring Blind Shear Rams with Hydril 22” Operator Bonnets and a Vetco EXF H4 Wellhead Connector.
Control systems include a Cameron/ EFC Direct Hydraulic BOP Control System with API 17H ROV Intervention Secondary Control System and Deadman Autoshear System. The riser, provided by Oil States/ OR-6C, is 50ft in length and 21″ in diameter.
The rig is equipped with 10 Rolls Royce Wireline Tensioners, a GE KFDS Diverter with a 49 ½” insert type, and a moonpool measuring 83’4″ x 20’8″ with a 60mT capacity utility trolley.
Power is derived from four Bergen KVGB 12 diesel engines, and emergency power is ensured with one HEDEMORA/V6B-12 unit. The rig has significant storage capacities for various fluids and materials, including fuel oil, liquid mud, base oil, bulk cement, brine, barite, drill water, bentonite, and potable water.
